Stewardship: an Interdisciplinary Design Project
This project was completed in the second semester of my senior year at Iowa State University. We were placed into seven-person teams based on personality tests that the professors analyzed in combination with our past work and what we were interested in working on. These teams were interdisciplinary, each containing some combination of graphic designers, interior designers, architects, and industrial designers. My team consisted of three graphic designers, three interior designers, and one industrial designer.
My focus throughout this project was on the overall branding, brand quality control and cohesion, and the exterior and interior graphics on the mobile educational unit, as well as the visitor pass. If you would like to see more of the project, connect with my groupmates, or discuss this project further please contact me!
Our professors worked as a mock firm and requested RFPs and RFQs from each team in class. Our problem statement was given as such:
Our Concept Statement:
We inhabit a finite resource. As designers, we have to potential to be visionary innovators. We can communicate, facilitate, and inform world-changing possibilities. NASA is an organization aligned with these ideals. Its mission is to: Drive advances in science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration to enhance knowledge, education, innovation, economic vitality, and stewardship of Earth. Blue Pearl’s request for a conceptual design proposal will demonstrate how NASA’s mission might be furthered through public education and experiential interactions in a themed ‘space portal’ hotel, mobile learning unit, as well as additional program components as determined by the answering design firms.
Stewardship highlights the concept of preserving our forever by creating an emphasis on NASA's biological research and developments. By combining imagery of nature and space in immersive experiences about technological innovation, Stewardship hopes to inspire a sustainable vision of the future.
Stewardship highlights NASA’s biological research and developments focused on sustainability. Our Graphic Designers worked collaboratively on concept development, branding, UX, and experiential and environmental design. This work can be seen in three different areas; a hotel, a garden, and an educational mobile unit.
